| J S Jackson began writing “The Golden Talisman” in the summer of 1997. The story evolved from a rambling bedtime tale he told his young sons late one night during the previous fall. Tired and grumpy, and rather than read a passage from one of his kids’ favorite nighttime story books that evening, he decided to recite a new tale for them from off the top of his head. The story lasted for several minutes, and afterward his bewildered boys gave him his first critical review. The youngest, Tyler, was fascinated by the imagery of a mystical world not far removed from our own. The oldest, Christopher, forever the realist, thought it was the dumbest thing he ever heard! That could have been the end of this venture, but his wife, Fiona, overheard the incident and was actually impressed with the tale. Even so, the incident was largely forgotten until she brought it up again to him the following spring. |
